So, are you using (with permission) your neighbors’ internet?
Does the Wi-Fi extender to the island use a lot of (their) power/electricity?
They do sound like great neighbors.

Thanks for the share here on your yurt project. It’s inspiring that you all are so intrepid and jump into projects, ready to improvise on the spot. Things look like they are shaping up quite nicely!

Lots of folks I’ve met who have lived in yurts say they would go for a rectangular structure in the future to make roofing, in particular, much easier. It also makes building within the structure a bit easier. But there is something special about being in a structure without straight lines.

What you experienced with your neighbors has been the same for me in Nova Scotia. The folks are so kind, generous, and often handy, that it’s hard to fathom. You lucked out with your location on many levels, and the people are a major part of that. If you want any tips on any spots to check out next time, I’d be happy to share. In particular there are a few coastal hikes probably close to your island which are really choice.
