Nope. Vegas is one of the most water efficient cities, has 10 years of water “banked” in Lake Mead because it uses less than its allocation every year, and if Lake Mead does drop to dead pool (in other words, California can’t physically get water from it anymore), Vegas still has a deep enough straw.

Yes, I think the reflected sound waves have to bounce back so you need to be perpendicular to the surface or the relected waves won’t return to the sensor.
